Atomic Stained Glass Art
About...

Hello. My name is Stephanie Stump. I graduated with a degree in Fine Art and have been making art ever since, around working full time as a graphic designer. (I also offer a graphic design service and more information can be found here.)

I have always loved stained glass and this passion is turning into a full time business. Please contact me if you would like to discuss a commission or to purchase anything you see here. Some designs can be made to order if already sold (though no two items will ever be identical as they are all handmade) so please enquire.

Inspiration can come from anywhere. Nature, dreams, a conversation. Anything can initiate a new design.

I hope you like the examples shown on this site but perhaps you have your own idea and would like a bespoke commission, handmade in Birmingham. If so, please contact me.

Perhaps you want a special gift for someone or want to treat yourself to a beautiful handmade stained glass art piece. I am happy to help with ideas to create your perfect stained glass panel.

Commissions currently have a waiting list of around four months.

Stained glass is stunning to look at, adds atmosphere to any area, and really benefits from being seen in natural daylight.

“Stained glass” refers to glass that has been coloured by metallic oxides during the manufacturing process. Different additives produce different hues, allowing glass makers to strategically produce glass of specific colours. For example, adding copper oxides to molten glass will make blue and green tones.

The art of stained glass is beautiful in itself but the interaction with daylight which, by its very nature is always changing, means your stained glass piece will never look the same from moment to moment.

The glass I use is often handmade hence it may contain flaws that naturally occur in the manufacturing process like air bubbles. These add texture and substance to the glass. Traditional stained glass can vary in colour across sheets and from batch to batch. This, combined with the act of hand painting, means each finished piece is totally unique, even if similar in style to another.

Customer Experience

I love the creation of stained glass and am very happy when I hear that customers are pleased with the end results, whether they bought for themselves or were surprised with stained glass as a gift. I always hope to exceed expectations and strive to create something special for each individual client.

When time is short it may help to know that I can gift wrap your item and include a greeting card with your message transcribed, if you would like it shipped straight to someone. This is free of charge. Just contact me to discuss the details.

It is really appreciated when you send me feedback that I can share with future customers too. Here are the recent examples of customer feedback and some photos , kindly shared.

Birtle both windows

Steph....they are absolutely amazing. Delighted. Chris held them up and the downstairs one looks fab...it's the first thing you see when you open the front door. The upstairs one might be my favourite tho... I love them both. Above and beyond what we could have wished for. Thank you.

Bev (& Chris), Bury.

Daffodils portrait

Today I received the most beautiful gift from my family in Australia .  It was a stained glass hanging of daffodils, a snail and a bumble bee.  It was handmade by Atomic Stained Glass Art. What a very talented artist.  This is something that I will treasure for ever.  Thank you - I absolutely love it and look forward to hanging it in pride of place.

Aberaeron Harbour

Blown away with how this beautiful piece of artwork came together. I knew certain things I wanted but just didn't know how to pull them altogether in a piece of art! However, Steph was very easy to work with, she took on the challenge and I absolutely love the end result. A unique gift of inspiration for a close friend reaching his 70th birthday coinciding with the 1st year of his heart transplant.

So happy with it Steph and I'm sure Ken will be thrilled.

Thank you so much.

Julie, Cotteridge.

Three Cats

Steph is a super talented artist and her pieces are all full of love. She created two incredible pet portrait pieces for me; both perfectly captured the personality of the kitties and the craftsmanship was very impressive. They made perfect, unique, personal gifts. Very happy and highly recommended! Thank you!

Lily arrived, is up in our window and looks great. Perfectly packaged and much more beautiful in person than a picture shows.

My fiance loves it and says thank you.

Andy, Solihull.

Blue portrait

I didn't have firm ideas as to what I wanted beyond it must contain blue glass to match my redecorated bedroom.

Steph was fabulous all the way through the process. She supplied pictures of different glass samples to ensure I was involved with the final selection. She also shared suggestions after I asked if some floral items could be added to it and hand painted sea holly in some of the panels.

I'm genuinely thrilled with the finished piece and look forward to ordering more as I redecorate more rooms.

Just a quick note to say thank you so much for my amazing house number. I am thrilled with it and it is now hanging in our front window. The colours react with the different light and I have received lots of compliments from the neighbours.

Estelle, Bristol.

Covid 19

We have been a shielding household.

Each finished glass piece hangs for as long as possible before shipping. (This is especially desirable if leading and therefore cement  has been used - drying/hardening time). I wipe down each finished piece with anti-viral wipes when ready to ship.

Terms

During early discussions about commissions you are, of course, under no obligation to commit to buying a piece.

I will only be able to quote on a commission once I understand the full specification (size, amount of detail, how intricate the painting etc). Costs are based on materials and hours to produce an item. I will be able to estimate a completion date, too.

If a design is approved to proceed I will require 25% of the quoted cost in advance. This helps with outlay. The balance will be required just before delivery. I will send you a photograph of the finished piece (if you decide this is what you would like to do - you may prefer a surprise!) so that you are reassured it is as expected. Please pay the balance at this stage.

Atomic Stained Glass is not a VAT registered company.

Post & Packing

I take great care when packing up your piece of stained glass. It is wrapped in protective  materials (special, biodegradable bubble wrap) then gift wrapped with tissue paper, plywood or hardboard is cut to size for extra protection of larger pieces and the package is boxed or wrapped in cardboard.

Shipping is free within the UK. If you are interested in an item and live outside of the UK please just contact me and I will estimate the cost of shipping to your region. Items will have to be individually weighed for shipping abroad. Very large commissions may have bespoke crates made for shipping which adds to cost but ensures safe arrival anywhere in the world.

I am happy to discuss shipping /delivery options.
